Westerly Hospital Among the First in the State to Offer
OtisKnee™ Advanced Knee
Replacement
As
part of its ongoing commitment to deliver clinical excellence, The
Westerly Hospital is one of the first hospitals in Rhode Island to offer custom fit total
knee replacement with OtisKnee (TM).
The OtisKnee replacement system uses custom cutting equipment
that is designed prior to surgery which are
based off an MRI taken of the patient’s knee. The cutting equipment assists the surgeon in making accurate bone cuts specific to the
individual patient and ensure that the knee to be implanted is
sized to the patient’s individual anatomy. The implant that is used is the Stryker
Triathlon Total Knee, the fastest growing knee system in the United States,
with over 30,000 implanted to date.
“OtisKnee has been the single greatest advancement in
knee replacement I’ve seen in more than a decade,” said Dr.
Stephen Gross, Orthopedic Surgeon at The Westerly Hospital.” “So far, I have performed five
knee replacement surgeries at The Westerly Hospital with OtisKnee, and my patients are experiencing rapid, less
painful recoveries, better range of motion, and are able to resume normal
activities more quickly.”
According
to Dr. Daniel Gaccione, Orthopedic Surgeon at
The Westerly Hospital, “OtisKnee takes
the place of more invasive knee replacement methods that require the
insertion of rods and more exposure to the knee area. OtisKnee is custom-fit
to the individual knee, and goes beyond the gender-specific knee
replacements performed in other area hospitals. The outcomes are faster recovery and
more mobility. In fact, one of my
patients who recently had an OtisKnee
replacement was walking without a cane after just one week after
surgery.”
