Chapel and Clergy Services

The hospital cares about your spiritual needs as well as your medical needs and the hospital chaplain and volunteer spiritual caregivers are here to assist in meeting them. If you request it, your nurse, the hospital‘s staff chaplain or one of the spiritual caregivers can arrange for a visit by your own pastor, priest, rabbi or spiritual leader.  If you specified a place of worship during admission/registration, it allows your own clergy to know you are hospitalized in some cases.

In addition, spiritual care is available to you and your family 24 hours a day through the “On-Call Clergy” program provided by the Westerly- Pawcatuck Clergy Association; just ask any member of the staff to request a visit for you.

Patients, family members and staff, regardless of religious denomination, may request a visit with the hospital’s staff chaplain by calling extension 3979 from within the hospital.

The hospital’s chaplaincy services office is located on the second floor near the elevators; our number is (401) 348-3979. If no one is available when you call, leave a message, which will be checked. We also have some devotional materials and scriptures available on request.

Our interdenominational chapel on the first floor is always open for family and your friends. We encourage the use of this quiet and beautiful chapel.

Visitor Policy

Westerly Hospital does not have visiting hours because we do not consider family and friends as visitors. They are vital members of the healthcare team in our patient and family centered partnership. We try very hard to base visits around patient and family needs. We recognize that visits by family and friends are an important part of a patient’s recovery.

  • Friends or family members who are ill should not visit.
  • Please keep in mind that visits may be interrupted if the patient needs to leave the room for treatment, x-rays, or other tests.
  • If the patient is being treated in their room, visitors may be asked to step out at the patient’s request.

Coffee and Sandwich Shop

Honey Dew Donut and Sandwich Shop, located just off the lobby, serves light meals, snacks, and beverages:

  • Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, 5:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

At Westerly Hospital, we respect the privacy and confidentiality of your health information. We may use and share your health information for purposes of treatment, payment and general administration in the delivery of your health care. Unless you object, we may use and disclose your name and location in our directory while you are a patient. A copy of the entire privacy notice is on our website.

As a patient, you have the following choices about disclosure of your name and location while you are a patient:

1. Your name and location will be included in our directory and available to people who ask for you by name, unless you opt out of the directory. Your clergy will have access to your religious affiliation even if they do not ask for you by name.
2. If you opt out of the directory, your name and location will not be available, except that your clergy will still have access to your religious affiliation even if they do not ask for you by name.
3. You can opt out of “religion”, and then your name and location will be available in the directory, but only for those people (including clergy) who ask for you by name.
4. If you do not want your name and location to be either in the directory or available to clergy, you should opt out of both the directory and “religion”.

If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you can report your complaint to any of your care team members, your nursing director or any member of the hospital executive team. Or you may write a letter to the Office of Civil Rights:
