The Westerly
Hospital promotes
the early detection of breast cancer with hopes of reducing breast cancer
mortality and optimizing treatment. We do this with some of the most
advanced tools of modern imaging, including state of the art mammography,
ultrasound and core biopsy. Our aim is to be compassionate toward our
patients with the understanding of their individual needs by providing
women with:

of quality in breast imaging to reduce mortality from breast cancer

We have proudly met all quality standards, and been accredited by the American College of Radiology, Medicare and
the Federal Drug Administration.

All of The Westerly Hospital mammography technologists are specially certified
mammographers.
Services
Screening Mammography
- A tool to detect
subtle changes in patients with no identifiable breast problems
Diagnostic Mammography
- A tool to
evaluate patients with breast symptoms such as pain, lump, or
nipple discharge
- Each exam is
specially tailored for each patient, and may include spot
compression, magnification views or ultrasound
Stereotactic Core Biopsy and Mammatomy
- A technique used
to remove tissue samples from the breast under local anesthesia
- Little or no scarring
involved
- Patients can
often return to work following the procedure
- Prompt reporting
to your healthcare provider
Ultrasound
- Breast ultrasound
is the exam of choice for women under the age of 30 with breast
masses
- Breast ultrasound
can differentiate solid from cystic masses
- Other ultrasound
services include; obstetrical, pelvic, abdominal, and vascular
studies
DEXA
- A simple scan of
the hip and lower spine
- Determines bone
density
- Important for the
detection and treatment of osteoporosis
