Inpatient Rehabilitation receives 2020 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for achieving and sustaining excellence in patient experience

Friday, September 18, 2020

New London, CT (Sept. 18, 2020) – Lawrence + Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that its Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit has been named a 2020 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey for outstanding patient experience.

The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile or above for performance in Patient Experience. This is the first time the hospital has received the prestigious award.

The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally recognized symbol of achievement in health care. Presented annually, the award honors organizations who consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients for each reporting period during the course of one year.

The award recognizes the achievement of L+M’s Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit where patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, patient care assistants, physical, occupational or speech therapists, social workers, dietitians, physiatrist and other clinicians as needed. The L+M Rehab Unit provides a comprehensive approach to patient care by offering one-on-one, intensive therapy for patients from throughout the region with neurological disorders, trauma, limb loss, joint replacements and other conditions. The treatment plans are designed to reduce time spent in the hospital and improves recovery outcomes so that the patients can get back to work, living or play.

“This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our inpatient rehabilitation providers who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care to every patient, every day,” said Patrick L. Green, president and CEO, L+M. “All of our associates – from the front-line staff to the medical teams to those who work behind the scenes – are focused on providing our patients and visitors with the best possible experience.”

“This award is particularly meaningful because it’s based on patient feedback. L+M always strives to put the needs of its patients first by continuously looking for innovative ways to enhance the hospital experience,” said Kristie Barber, director Patient Experience.

“The caregivers and staff of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital touch the lives of patients and their families in profound ways,” said Patrick T. Ryan, chairman and chief executive officer, Press Ganey. “This award reflects their deep commitment to listening to the voices of their patients and our shared mission to reduce suffering and improve the safety, quality, and experience of patient-centered care. I continue to be humbled and inspired by their heroic efforts to care for patients in the face of the uncertainty, stress, and fear brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Press Ganey is proud to partner with them in this noble work and we congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”
