Free mindfulness series for employees

Have you found yourself wanting to be more present or “in the moment” ? Would you like to learn how to tap into a peaceful state of mind during stressful situations? Yale New Haven Health’s Employee and Family Resources (EFR) program is offering a free, seven-week series, Mindfulness@Work. The series teaches formal and informal mindfulness practices to help people become more present and compassionate with others, increase focus and concentration and bring more balance and contentment to life. The classes, now only 30 minutes, are on Tuesdays through Nov. 19, 11:30 am - noon in NP 4 101B, York Street Campus. Register by contacting Bud Wassell, 203-688-2280, or [email protected]. Let’s Talk workshop on disability stereotypes

As part of its Let’s Talk series, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites employees to a discussion about disability stereotypes and ableism, and how advocates are shattering physical and attituderelated barriers. The discussion will also cover how healthcare services are delivered to people with disabilities. Featured speakers are Michelle M. Duprey, Esq., director of New Haven’s Department of Services for Persons with Disabilities, and Kathy Flaherty, Esq., executive director, Connecticut Legal Rights Project, Inc. The workshop is 10 am - 2 pm Friday, Oct. 18, 55 Park St. auditorium. Lunch will be provided. To register, visit the Infor Learning Management System. Marna Borgstrom awarded for supplier diversity

Marna P. Borgstrom, YNHHS president and CEO, recently received the 2019 President’s Award from the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council (GNEMSDC). The award recognizes a leader who has made a significant contribution to the Council and to minority business development. The GNEMSDC noted that YNHHS has been a leader in Connecticut in diversity and inclusion and supplier diversity, and a steadfast GNEMSDC supporter. The Council focuses on minority business development, economic inclusion and closing the racial wealth gap.
