Having a child who has specialized healthcare needs can be challenging without the added stress of driving great distances to receive world-renowned medical services.

“Getting care in the community can be better for the child and family because they don’t need to travel. It’s less intimidating and stressful,” said Daniel Solomon, MD, a Yale Medicine pediatric surgeon who sees patients at the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center in Greenwich.

Located at 500 West Putnam Ave., the YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center provides children and families convenient access to multiple Yale Medicine pediatric specialists and subspecialists, all of whom communicate closely with the child’s primary care physician. The specialists include pediatric allergists; cardiologists; endocrinologists; gastroenterologists; gynecologists; hematologists; hepatologists; nephrologists; neurologists; neurosurgeons; oncologists; orthopedic physicians; respiratory specialists; rheumatologists; surgeons; urologists; and ear, nose and throat physicians.

In addition, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and community obstetricians can refer patients to Yale Medicine pediatric cardiologists Dina Ferdman, MD and Meredith Pesce, MD for fetal echocardiograms when an anomaly is detected in the fetus. The tests are performed at the YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center in Greenwich as part of the Fetal Care Center.

Children who require surgery are admitted to Greenwich Hospital and return to the YNHCH Pediatric Specialty Center for follow-up care. Dr. Solomon is among the cadre of board-certified pediatric surgeons who spend part of their week at Greenwich Hospital. “When our pediatric specialists are operating, Greenwich Hospital becomes one of the busiest children’s hospital in the state,” he said.
