Support Groups and Social Work

If you or someone you know is affected by diabetes, polio or scoliosis, or you have a special needs child, Westerly Hospital offers compassionate guidance and camaraderie through our support groups. All groups are free and open to everyone.

Diabetes Support

Northeast Medical Group offers a free monthly diabetes support group for patients, families and caregivers. Sessions are held on the fourth Monday of the month from noon - 1 pm, in the Henry J. Nardone Conference Center. The group is facilitated by Joan Sommers, Registered  Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator. For information, call 401-348-0008.

Post Polio Syndrome Support

This group meets on the third Saturday of the month, 10:00am – 12:00pm, in Westerly Hospital’s Henry J. Nardone Conference Center. Facilitated by a community member who is also a polio survivor, the group provides resources, information and support for those who have been stricken with polio and are now experiencing symptoms associated with post-poliomyelitis. Scoliosis Support

The group consists of members who have scoliosis and various other spine problems, and offers support and information. This group is facilitated by a community member who has undergone scoliosis spine surgery. For more information call Patty at 401-348-8085.

The “Sensational” Child: Support for Families with Special Needs Children

This program is run by a member of the community and meets the second Thursday of the month from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in Westerly Hospital’s Henry J. Nardone Conference Center. This program is run by a member of the community and provides support to families of children with special needs. For information on this group, call Maria at 401-348-8901.
