Biography - Abdelrahman Alsherbini, MD

Abdelrahman Alsherbini, MD, specializes in pediatric epilepsy, with expertise in the diagnosis and management of epilepsy resulting from structural, genetic, infectious, metabolic, immune-mediated, and unknown causes. He is committed to evidence-based care, utilizing both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment approaches. Dr. Alsherbini is experienced in a range of advanced non-pharmacological therapies that have been shown to reduce seizure burden and improve quality of life for children with epilepsy.

“Diagnosing and managing epilepsy is like reading a complex novel,” he says. “It begins by gathering disparate details to sketch a broad picture of a child's concerns; then, the diagnostic workup fills in the finer lines. Finally, long-term follow-up adds the unique, personal touches that define each patient's journey.”

Dr. Alsherbini's clinical and academic interests focus on pediatric epilepsy syndromes, He is on the pediatric neurology team at Yale New Haven Hospital, bringing with him strong enthusiasm for research, clinical care, and medical education. He is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based neurological care to children. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Alsherbini has a special passion for teaching. He provides tailored, case-based, and easy-to-digest educational sessions for medical students, residents, and fellows.

“My deepest goal is to be the doctor that families find at the end of a long road — after the confusing appointments, the unanswered questions, the diagnoses that didn't quite fit,” he says. “I want to be someone who takes the hardest cases seriously, who doesn't give up when things are complicated, and who can offer families something they may not have had before: a clear explanation, a thoughtful plan, and a doctor who will stay in it with them.”

He added, “I want families to know that when they come to see me, they will feel supported from the very first visit. A neurology appointment can bring a lot of emotions — and I see it as my role to turn that experience into one of clarity, confidence, and hope. I explain things step by step, celebrate every question as an opportunity to help you understand your child’s condition better, and make sure you leave with a clear picture of the path forward.”

Dr. Alsherbini earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his postdoctoral research fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital. His clinical training was enriched through a general pediatrics preliminary residency and a residency in child neurology at Wayne State University. He then completed a clinical fellowship in epilepsy at Texas Children's Hospital.
