Shuta Ishibe, MD, treats patients with kidney disease, diabetes and hypertension through Yale Medicine Section of Nephrology and at Yale New Haven Hospital. He sees many patients with nephritic syndrome, a condition that results from kidney damage and has a range of symptoms, including high cholesterol, swelling and excessive protein in the urine.
His research focuses on the role of endocytosis—a process by which cells transport proteins and into other cells—in nephritic syndrome. “Understanding the underlying mechanisms may serve as potential therapeutic targets,” he says. Dr. Ishibe is an associate professor of medicine (nephrology) and of cellular and molecular physiology at Yale School of Medicine.
