Mammography / Breast Imaging

A Smart Choice for Your Health

You already know that receiving annual breast cancer screenings is a good choice for your health. While choosing where to go for screenings isn’t as straightforward, it is just as important and it is your choice where it is performed.

Westerly Hospital offers the latest and most advanced breast imaging technology, along with a team of highly skilled, compassionate experts who understand your concerns and walk you through each step of the process.

When your doctor tells you it’s time for your next mammogram, ask to have your screening at Westerly Hospital.

3D Tomosynthesis Mammography

This advanced type of mammogram, available at Westerly Hospital, provides a more accurate image than mammography alone. With a traditional 2D mammogram, overlapping layers of breast tissue may conceal fine details and lead to unclear results. Our 3D mammogram technology creates a separate image for each layer of tissue, giving your doctor a more precise picture of your breast health. 3D mammography offers far-reaching benefits:
  • 41% increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers
  • 40% decrease in false-positive recalls
  • Detection of cancer 15 months earlier

Additional Breast Imaging

Westerly Hospital’s Breast Imaging Center offers the region’s only Automated Whole Breast Screening Ultrasound (ABVS), adding another level of accuracy to its state-of-the-art technologies. ABVS is especially beneficial for those with dense breasts. Using sound waves to create multi-dimensional images, can assist in finding hidden lesions inside dense breast tissue, which may not be seen in regular mammogram screenings.

If additional treatment is recommended following an ultrasound or mammogram, Westerly Hospital’s specially trained physicians offer a range of comprehensive care. Patients benefit from MRIs and surgical treatment, all performed by caring staff in a comfortable setting.
